When Gaby Aghion launched Chloe' in 1952, she revolutionized the world of
fashion. Until that time, luxury fashion houses had only ever produced Couture
or Haute Couture (i.e. true made-to-measure) clothing. And while those garments
were exquisite, they were expensive and inaccessible to most people - who often
had to settle for poorly made imitations. So she introduced an idea she called
"luxury prêt-a-porter," high-quality off-the-rack clothing that was soft,
form-fitting and made of the highest quality fabrics. It didn't take long
for other fashion houses to follow suit. And Chloe' has been a trend setter ever
since. Over the past 50 years Chloe' has been led by many of the most
influential designers in history: Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Phoebe
Philo among them. There's an interesting story behind the name Chloe' as
well. Founder Gaby Aghion thought her own name sounded like that of a fortune
teller! So she borrowed the name "Chloe'" from a friend - for it's youthful,
modern and feminine sound. A name that's clearly caught on...
